Local Issues |
The Tram |
We support the development of a new tram line through Beeston and Chilwell. We believe that this is the best way of ensuring that traffic does not escalate to a level where it becomes gridlocked. However we do want to make sure that we best the best possible deal for the local area, and so the council, under our leadership, have submitted a number of detailed objections to the scheme calling for improvements to be made. |
Town Centres |
We led the campaign to have town centre managers appointed to help our town centres in Broxtowe thrive and grow. We want to see a substantial redevelopment of Beeston town centre to ensure that it retains its number one slot for shopping areas around Nottingham City. We also want to see the town centres of Eastwood, Kimberley and Stapleford enhanced to provide the best possible facilities for local residents and businesses. |
Council Tax |
Before the 2003 local election we pledged that if we were in power afterwards we would ensure council tax rises were kept to a minimum and that we would seek to ensure local residents got value for money. We kept that pledge, and will continue to work to ensure that council tax is as low as possible. |
Recycling |
Broxtowe is in the top 25% of all local authorities for recycling, but we are not content with that. Our aim is to be the highest recycling borough in the country. We are actively exploring ways that our performance on this can be made even better. |

Post Office Closures |
The Government want to close 4 post offices in Broxtowe. Each of these serves a local community, and the closure of the Sevenoaks Crescent post office in Bramcote in particular will leave many locals without access to a post office. We believe that the decision is wrong and are campaigning against it. Rather than shutting post offices the Government should be looking to invest in the local network and recognise the important role they play in many communities.
