Stan Heptinstall is one of the three members who represent Bramcote Ward on the council. He was first elected in 1991 and has served as a councillor continually since then. He is currently the cabinet member with the portfolio for Environment and also the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on the Council. As well as being a borough councillor he is one of the two county councillor for the Bramcote and Stapleford Division. He was first elected to Nottinghamshire County Council in 1997. He is also a member of Stapleford Town Council.

Stan is Chair of the Bramcote and Stapleford Golden Jubilee Group which organises the annual Hemlock Happening held in Bramcote Hills Park in June. He chairs the meetings of the Bramcote Community Action Team which are held every three months at the Memorial Hall, Church Street, Bramcote. He is a LEA governor at the White Hills Park Federation of Secondary Schools in Bramcote that now includes the Alderman White School and the Bramcote Park School. He is a member of the Parochial Church Council and choir at St Michael's Church, Bramcote. He is a trustee for the Bramcote Charities. He is a co- editor of the publication Focus on Bramcote which is delivered regularly to those who live in the Bramcote area.

As well as his contributions to the area as a local councillor, Stan also has another life. He is a senior academic member of staff at the University of Nottingham and heads the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine of the School of Clinical Sciences.

Stan has lived in Bramcote Hills with his family since 1975. His wife the Reverend Lillian Heptinstall is an ordained priest in the Church of England and is minister-in-charge at St Barnabas Church, Inham Nook, Chilwell. Stan and Lillian have four (adult) children and six grandchildren (with a 7th on the way).
